You need:
- Epoxy glue 5 minute set and a mixing palette

- Craft knife
- Work surface, a thick plastic document file is fine.
To prepare the glazed surfaces on either side of the break, key the glaze with sandpaper for the urushi to stick. Do not key broken edge.
*You don't need to do this preparation if you are applying urushi to a non glazed or fragile surface or you are also wishing to make a hairline gold application

Take an equal amount of glue from each tube, mix them well. Apply to broken edges
Align edges pushing them together firmly together wiggling a little bit to find an exact join and squeezing out excess glue.
* If any gap remains, this will enlarge the piece and in the end, one piece may not fit the gap when you are repairing several breaks.

Scrape off the excess glue when nearly set using a knife; or remove with acetone using a rag while still sticky.
Clean the whole piece with acetone and a rag.
You can fill the break lines with epoxy putty to make the join invisible. *See page “Repairing a chip with epoxy“
